Bush park seine net is widely used in river and lake or leasble
“inn”. Any kind of bushes or tree branches are collected from the nearest available source,
usually the flooded forest. The branches are set out next to each other close to the river bank or inside a
lake or recession pond in water depth of 3 to 5 m. A fence is set to prevent the brush from being washed away
by the current. The fence is made of bamboo poles, which are driven into the riverbed around the edge
of the bush park at distance of around 3 m from each other. The size of bush parks is 5 to 10 m long and 5
to 10 m wide.
The bush park is operated during the second half
of the flood recession period in river segment, where the current is getting weak. After demarcating the chosen
location by bamboo poles the bush and tree branches are placed evenly inside. Fish looking for shelter
are attracted to the brushwood aggregation. To collect the fish a long seine net is put around the park.
Then the brushwood is taken out starting with the brushwood nearest to the net and the net is moved close to
the remaining brush. The fishermen have to be makes sure the foot rope touch the bottom. The head rope is
fixed to the bamboo poles as high as possible above the water surface to prevent fish from jumping over
the net. Smaller brush parks may be set up and fished out 2 to 3 times a month.
Boiled rice or other kinds of bait are often
put inside the brush parks in order to make them more attractive.
