The construction of the giant cast net is basically the same as the normal cast net different only in size. It can be constructed up to 30 m long with a circumference of 45 m. The rim of the net carries a lead pieces or sinker and is fabricated to form pockets, as similar as in most portable cast net. Giant cast net can only be operated by being hanged from a boat, being too large to be cast by hand. The giant cast net is exclusively used from the boats.
The giant cast net is used in area with considerable strength of current during the period of the flood is receding, the current greatly affects spreads out and sinks to the bottom. When the net is paid out, the boat must move with over the current, as in this way the net can be spread out over the surface of the water. The whole operation of laying the net must be completed in 30 – 50 seconds at the most. The net them closes gradually as it sinks. If there is a strong current, the net may take about two minutes to sink and close, depending on the depth, and if there is little current it will take up to five minutes. The optimum conditions are thus a strong current and depth of 5 – 10 meters. As soon as the net touches the bottom, it is pulled up by the fishers and the fish are taken out
