2. Semi-stationary traps


2.1. Kabat (tidal weir)
     This gear is used at the mudflats around the mangrove fringe areas (see Figure 19). It is made of polyethylene net some with 25.4 mm mesh size and are usually mounted on wooden poles and set up like a fence forming a letter “C” around a mangrove fringe area during high tide. Formerly the gear is made of woven bamboo but now is replaced by PA monofilament netting material that can sometimes be set to about 400 meters in length covering wider mangrove fringes. The catches usually consist of both shrimp and fish that are picked up on the mudflats during low tide.
