Gurit (Gleaning gear)
This instrument is used for finding and gathering clams or
shellfish along the beach especially during low tide. This
tool is made of a wooden frame with a metal shoe. The frame
is fitted with a wooden pole as handle. The tool is dragged
along the exposed tidal flats to expose the hard-shelled clams.
This technique provides ease in locating clams to harvest.
Modern garit is made of steel from pole to the shoe.
