DEEP-SEA FISHERY RESOURCES EXPLORATION

on the Continental Shelfs and Slopes in the Southeast Asian Waters

ENVISAGED OUTCOME OF THE PROGRAM FOR THIS YEAR

In the program the following key tasks are set to:

1. Investigate the deep sea fisheries resources in close collaboration with the SEAFDEC’s Member Countries by using MV SEAFDEC2 and/or by other research vessels;

2. Explore new deep sea fisheries resources and fishing grounds in the Southeast Asian Waters

3. Investigate the deep-sea trawling impacts on sea-bottom ecosystem through the identification of species composition and underwater observation using VDO camera, etc.;

4. Enhance the human resources capacity on the deep sea resources exploration such as Sampling methodology of deep sea fisheries resources, Identification of deep sea fishes and larval fishes, Taxonomy, and Development of appropriated/responsible fishing gear and methods for harvesting/samplings of deep sea resources; and to

5. Support the national resources survey using national research vessel of the Member Countries for improvement of fishing gear and methods for deep sea fish samplings.
