"On the Job & Follow Up Training"

Two days training (17-18 March 2009) on fish photography and post capture image were conducted for taxonomists and field biologists of the Department of Fisheries of Brunei Darussalam at Marine Fisheries Station, Muara, Brunei Darussalam. Participants were practice on setting position of the fish specimens (e.g. raising the dorsal fin, pectoral fin, anal fin, spine, and filaments, etc.) then taking photos of fishes using the camera stand. After the fish photography, participants were practice on post image processing techniques (e.g. die cut technique, manipulation, brightness and contrast, etc.).

During 2-4 February 2010, the follow up training on preparation of the color fish book had been conducted at Marine Fisheries Station, Fisheries Department, Brunei Darussalam on the collection and preservation of deep-sea specimens including digital imaging to support the preparation of Brunei deep-sea fish book. The exact photographs of deep sea species, used in the production of deep sea species book, are brought into the practices to evaluate the precise focal point of the training and ensure the maximum beneficial to trainees.

To identify the benthic resources and seafloor features, the underwater VDO camera was using for the seafloor survey. Techniue of towing the sledge attached with underwater VDO camera was introduced to the participants on October 19, 2010 during the workshop on "Methodologies for Study on Impact of Fishing to Deep-Sea Ecosystem".
